Clinical context for cat dosing

Cats (Felis catus) lack many of the glucuronyl-transferase isoforms other mammals use to clear common drugs, which is why a dose safe in a dog can be lethal in a cat (paracetamol being the canonical example, but extending to many phenolic compounds). Permethrin spot-ons formulated for dogs are reliably fatal in cats. Doses on this site are species-specific feline rules, not dog rules halved — check the evidence level if you're unsure of the source. Hyperthyroidism, chronic kidney disease, and diabetes mellitus dominate the geriatric pharmacotherapy load.
