Mechanism of Action
Oral gold salt with immunomodulatory and anti-inflammatory properties. Inhibits macrophage and lymphocyte function. Mechanism not fully understood.
Side effects & warnings
Used for immune-mediated skin diseases (pemphigus). Slow onset (weeks to months). Toxicity: diarrhea, proteinuria, bone marrow suppression. Monitor CBC and urinalysis. Largely replaced by newer agents.
