Prodrug activated by hepatic CYP enzymes to form phosphoramide mustard, which alkylates DNA, cross-linking strands and inhibiting replication.
Sterile hemorrhagic cystitis from metabolite acrolein — concurrent furosemide/mesna and adequate hydration recommended. Myelosuppression. Handler precautions. Also used for immune-mediated diseases.
