Polyether ionophore that transports cations across cell membranes, disrupting ion gradients in coccidia and gram-positive bacteria. In ruminants, improves feed efficiency by altering rumen microbial populations.
HIGHLY TOXIC TO DOGS, HORSES, AND OTHER EQUIDS — even small amounts can be fatal. Cardiac and skeletal muscle necrosis. NO antidote. Keep all livestock feed containing monensin away from horses and dogs.
