Hiprex, Urex
Hydrolyzed to formaldehyde in acidic urine (pH <6.0), which is bactericidal. Hippuric acid component helps acidify urine.
Requires acidic urine pH (<6.0) for efficacy. Ineffective in alkaline urine. Avoid with sulfonamides (insoluble precipitate). Not effective for upper UTI.
