Mechanism of Action
Blocks voltage-sensitive sodium channels, stabilizing neuronal membranes and inhibiting glutamate release. Also modulates high-voltage-activated calcium channels.
Side effects & warnings
Risk of serious dermatologic reactions (Stevens-Johnson syndrome). Must titrate dose slowly. Very limited veterinary data. Monitor for skin rashes.
