Primaxin
Binds penicillin-binding proteins, inhibiting cell wall synthesis. Ultra-broad spectrum including many resistant organisms. Cilastatin prevents renal metabolism of imipenem.
Reserve for multi-drug resistant infections. May lower seizure threshold. Nausea and vomiting with rapid IV infusion. Administer IV slowly over 20-30 minutes.
