Mechanism of Action

Inhibits bacterial cell wall synthesis by binding to penicillin-binding proteins (PBPs). First-generation cephalosporin with activity against gram-positive cocci and some gram-negative bacteria.

Side effects & warnings

Cross-allergenicity with other beta-lactams possible. Adjust dose in renal impairment. Primarily used for bovine mastitis; limited companion animal data.
