Hydrophilic mucilloid that absorbs water in the GI tract, forming a gel that increases fecal bulk, softens stool, and promotes regular peristalsis.

Side effects & warnings

Must be given with adequate water to prevent obstruction. Start with low dose and increase gradually. May delay absorption of concurrently administered drugs.
