Inhibits thyroid peroxidase-mediated iodination and coupling reactions, and at high doses inhibits peripheral T4 to T3 conversion.
Higher hepatotoxicity and immune-mediated reactions than methimazole. Not recommended in cats — methimazole preferred. Monitor CBC and liver function.
