Mechanism of action

Active metabolite of toltrazuril. Inhibits mitochondrial enzyme systems in coccidia, disrupting nuclear division and mitochondrial function in all intracellular stages.

Side effects & warnings

Extra-label use in livestock. Primarily used in calves and lambs for coccidiosis treatment and prevention. Long half-life allows single-dose protocols.

Species-specific contraindications and adverse-reaction reports for cattle may differ from canine / feline reference data — consult the primary citations listed with each rule.

Why a species-specific page? Ponazuril (Livestock) pharmacokinetics differ across species: dose ranges, intervals, and route preferences are not interchangeable. Cross-extrapolation from canine doses is unsafe in cattle — the rules above are the citations specific to this species, not generic recommendations.
