Mechanism of action

Binds beta-tubulin, inhibiting microtubule polymerization in parasite cells. Disrupts glucose uptake and depletes glycogen stores.

Side effects & warnings

Teratogenic — CONTRAINDICATED in pregnant animals. Bone marrow suppression with prolonged use. Broader spectrum than fenbendazole but more toxic. Monitor CBC.

Species-specific contraindications and adverse-reaction reports for cattle may differ from canine / feline reference data — consult the primary citations listed with each rule.

Why a species-specific page? Albendazole pharmacokinetics differ across species: dose ranges, intervals, and route preferences are not interchangeable. Cross-extrapolation from canine doses is unsafe in cattle — the rules above are the citations specific to this species, not generic recommendations.
